Welcome to details of Archway Market’s new
Cookling oil & domestic battery
RECYCLING SCHEME
The facts
Cooking oil poured down the sink or thrown away for landfill causes bad environmental damage.
Birds and animals can become oiled, the water’s oxygen supply depleted, and hard and gummy coatings on surfaces can persist for years. It also causes sink and drain blockage, meaning cleaning and the use of more chemicals.
Discarded general use batteries expose the environment to lead and corrosive acids, cause burns and are a danger to wildlife and anyone in contact with them.
The Greener Option
Used vegetable oil can be recycled into a diesel that functions like a mineral diesel but produces no sulphur dioxide; no net carbon dioxide and up to 20 times less carbon monoxide. It biodegrades 4 times faster than mineral diesel and reduces soot emissions on roads by 40-60%,
At Archway Market you can now bring your used vegetable oil and we will send it to be turned into greener diesel at a local plant.
You can also bring your used domestic batteries which will be recycled for their metals and made safer.
The domestic oil collection scheme is the very first of its kind and is only the beginning. F.O.A.M is now an Environment Agency approved waste handler and below are the details of the process we went through so that others can do the same – a small amount locally adds up! We also plan to expand the scheme to include small electrical items and other kinds of hazardous waste.
